When MacGyver Meets Harry Potter: Generation Gaps and Lessons Learnt in EVA Airways MPL Implementation
Multi-crew Pilot License is one of the latest innovations in ab-initio training. The training is based on Competency Based Training principles and is aimed to provide the trainee with reduced flight time in small training aircraft while maximizing trainee exposure to air transport category aircraft. Although the concept is ground breaking and innovative, there are various valuable lessons learnt by EVA Airways since the introduction of MPL in 2015.
This presentation will provide insights regarding various issues that EVA Airways have encountered and are still facing while implementing their MPL program. These issues include: Generation Gap (Gen X vs. Gen Y) and its impact on candidate selection and training. Effective training methods and syllabi design. Effective learning and communication for different generations.
The presentation will also focus on the cultural differences that played a significant role in EVA Airway’s attempt to implement MPL. Some of the cultural issues that will also be discussed are: student motivations, Asian education and its impact on MPL programs. These were proven to be significant issues while introducing MPL in an Eastern Culture.
The presentation will provide suggestions for remedial actions, and should serve as an introduction to those carriers who wish to implement an MPL program and facilitate their endeavors.
